Law on Cookies
The Dutch and EU Cookie Law

There is an EU ruling about cookies, which says that we have to tell you that our site and forum are using cookies. As we use standard Open Source software for both the site and the Forum that implicitly uses cookies, there will be cookies placed on your computer. Cookies are more or less inevitable on a site or forum in order to give you a browsing experience that makes it easy to visit the site and to walk back and forth on the site and the forum without having you typing in each page you want to visit by yourself.

The latest guidance states: Implied consent is a valid form of consent and can be used in the context of compliance with the revised rules on cookies. So the way we interpret the new law is that you have consented to the use of cookies simply by visiting our site and our forum. Yep we know it's perhaps a simplified way of looking at it, but by telling you this it is for us the best and easy way to comply to the this law made by jurists and not by engineers and so we rule out any complaint against us.

We built a self funded non profit website and when we read statements like, that there is the possibility of a half a million of fine, than it is better for us to tell you that we put cookies on your computer, so you are aware of this fact.

Art of Medicure makes use of cookies to store your login information if you are registered and your last visit if you are not. Cookies are small text documents stored on your computer, and are used by all sorts of websites. The cookies set by this forum can only be used on this website and pose no security risk. They are designed to make loading quicker and specifically to aid navigation on the site and in the forum. It is not possible to view this (or basically any other) website without cookies, and as a member you would not be able to login without the use of cookies. I guess you now also understand that this cookie law is a juridical thing and designed without the necessary technical knowledge about the inner workings of a website.

We hope this has given you a satisfactory explanation about the use of cookies on Art of Medicure, if you still have any questions please contact the Forum team, or members can post a question in the relevant section. For more information about the new rules and to find information on how to remove cookies please go to: Dutch cookie law description

For those of you who thought this page was an offer of a piece of cake (though the Dutch cookie page suggests this...), it's not! It is about a small piece of data that gets put on your computer by every website you visit. Although cookies cannot carry viruses, and cannot install malware on the host computer, tracking cookies and especially *third-party tracking cookies are commonly used as ways to compile long-term records of individuals' browsing histories — a major privacy concern that has prompted European and US law makers to take action.

The cookies used by Art of Medicure are perfectly safe, not shared or sold on, and we take this statement as being enough to comply with the law.

Thank You.
